Examining the history of the art form which depicts fruit, flowers and domestic objects, from the Xenia murals at Pompeii through to the cubist works of Picasso. The film also takes a look at the work of some of the artists synonymous with the genre, including Chardin and Cezanne, and features contributions from Bettany Hughes, Janina Ramirez and Andrew Graham-Dixon.
